Hearst Museum object titled Bowl, accession number 9-23616, described as Materials: Glazed porcelain Diameter at rim: 16 cm  Date: 1968 Country: People’s Republic of China   Description: The body is decorated with CCP’s symbol in a five-pointed star; on its left is a slogan above a scene of factory buildings with chimneys. The slogan reads: “Make it your principle to fight selfishness, denounce Revisionism” (以斗私、批修为綱 yi dousi、pixiu wei gang). On the right there is a stylized wheat pattern above a slogan reading: “Grasp revolution, Promote production” (抓革命促生产zhua geming cu shengchan). Contents in Quotation from Mao Zedong framed by a wheat garland, concluding with: “Carry the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution through to the end” (要把无产阶级文化大革命进行到底 yao ba wuchan jieji wenhua dageming jinxing daodi). Inscription: Kiln mark: “Zi River porcelain factory, Hunan 1968” (湖南 資江瓷厂Hunan Zijiang cichang 1968)  Place of Origin: Yiyang, Hunan Province. Condition: A crack on the interior, signs of wear. Next to it is a decal of the same inscription in black running script. The motifs are repeated on the reverse side. The interior is decorated with an encircled radiating red star. The reverse is inscribed. The gilded rim is worn. Inscription: Reverse: “Floral fragrance and birds’ songs also have feeling. Autumn month of the kuichou year [1933] at Zhu mountain [2 illegible characters] Yi xin ? made” (花香鳥語亦多情句  癸酉之秋月於珠山,□□義新森作huaxiang niaoyu yi duoqing ju, guiyou zhi qiuyue yu Zhushan, XX Yi xinsen zuo), an illegible red mark. Red square maker’s mark on foot: 景鎮范義新Jing zhen Fan Yi xin xx. Place of Origin: Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province. Condition: Extensive damage on foot rim, major chips and cracks on rim, wear.
